High fever, congestion, sinus infection in 3 year old?
My son who will be 3 in 5 days has been sick for 6 days now. I had him at the doc last wednesday and he said it was croup. He did have that cough associated with croup. Well, sunday, he started running a fever. His cough does not worsen at night and it does not sound like the croup-y cough anymore, he dosent even cough when hes asleep. Fever got to 103.8 last night. I took him to the doctor again and he said it was a sinus infection. How high is normal for the fever to get in a toddler with a sinus infection? Is there anyother signs or symptoms I should be looking for?

A fever this high is expected with certain infections, so as long as it isn’t any higher, its not a cause for alarm. The things you need to watch out for are: no response to antibiotics after 3rd or 4th pill, any worsening of symptoms, or development of nausea or diarrhea. Dehydration is the biggest risk when a child has a fever this high. Its a good idea to have your son drink a small serving (around 4 oz.) of a sport drink like gatorade once each hour or two, but do not try to make him drink if he says he feels full.
